Know For Sure Your Solar Panels Are Safe, Working Properly And Saving You Money.

As more homeowners make the switch to low-carbon energy, we believe they deserve more than a great installation — they deserve someone they can trust to look after their system for years to come.

TrueCare was created by experienced installers and engineers who recognised the need for dedicated aftercare. We focus on caring for renewable technology, helping homeowners protect their investment, maintain performance and have peace of mind long after installation.

Your Panels Could Be Underperforming Without You Knowing

Solar panels are brilliant at quietly getting on with the job, and that’s exactly why small problems can go unnoticed. A system can keep running, and your app can keep showing numbers, while something is holding it back. You don’t have to wait until your solar panels are not working at all to get them looked at. A solar panel health check is a simple way to make sure everything is safe, working as it should and earning its keep.

Most of the time there’s nothing major going on. But if any of these sound familiar, it might be worth a closer look.

  • Generation has dipped

Your system seems to be producing less than it used to, even on bright days. Some variation with the seasons is normal, but an unexplained drop is worth a look.

  • Inverter warnings or faults

A warning light, an error code or an inverter that keeps restarting. It’s often something simple, but it’s your inverter’s way of saying something isn’t quite right.

  • Loose or worn connections

Cables and connectors sit out in the weather year after year, and over time they can work loose or wear. It affects performance and safety, and it’s rarely something you can spot yourself.

  • Panel damage, wear or dirt

Cracks, discolouring or a build-up of dirt, moss or bird droppings can all reduce how much light reaches the cells.

  • Monitoring has gone quiet

Your app shows zero, has gaps or has stopped updating. Sometimes it’s just the Wi-Fi, but it can also hide a fault you’d otherwise never see.

None of these mean something is definitely wrong.A solar panel health check tells you for sure, and if it’s something small we can often sort it there and then.

Ask Us Anything

If you can't see your question below, send us a message, we'd be happy to help.

The most common reasons for solar panels not working are a tripped isolator or circuit breaker, an inverter fault, a loose or damaged cable, or damage to the panels themselves, such as cracking or water ingress. Sometimes the system is running but generating less than it should because of new shading or a failing component. A professional solar panel health check tests each part of your system to find the cause, so you’re not paying for parts you don’t need.

Start by checking your inverter display or monitoring app. A normal status light usually means the system is running, while red or amber lights, error codes or a blank screen point to a problem. Some inverters can also email you if the system fails. Compare your generation meter readings with the same month last year. A sudden drop that isn’t explained by the weather is a sign your system needs attention. If you’re unsure, a solar panel health check gives you a clear picture of how your system is performing.

A solar panel health check is a full inspection of your solar PV system by a qualified engineer. It typically covers a visual inspection of the panels, mounting and roof fixings, electrical testing of the panels and wiring, an inverter check, a review of generation data and a safety check of isolators and connections. You’ll get a report on your system’s condition and performance, and any repairs or improvements we recommend.

A red light or error code usually means the inverter has detected a fault and stopped working to protect the system. Common causes include an earth fault, a problem with the grid supply, overheating or the inverter reaching the end of its life.

Inverters don’t last as long as panels: the Energy Saving Trust says they typically need replacing after around 12 years, while panels should last 25 years or more.

Never open the inverter yourself. Note any error code, check your installer’s handover documents for fault guidance and book a solar panel health check so an engineer can diagnose the problem.

Solar panels lose a small amount of output each year, typically around 0.5%, so a noticeable drop is unlikely to be age alone. More common causes are new shading from trees or nearby buildings, a failed panel, a damaged cable or an inverter issue. Dirt and moss can also build up, particularly on ground-mounted or low-angled panels. A health check identifies whether the drop is normal for your system or a fixable problem that’s costing you money.

We recommend a solar panel health check every couple of years, or straight away if you notice a drop in performance, an error on your inverter or damage after severe weather.

Regular checks help catch small problems early and keep your system generating as much as possible. Some manufacturer warranties can also be affected if their maintenance guidelines aren’t followed, so it’s worth checking your warranty documents.

No. If your solar panels are not working, you lose both your energy bill savings and your export payments. Smart Export Guarantee payments are based on export meter readings, so if your system isn’t exporting, you aren’t earning. You can read more on Ofgem’s Smart Export Guarantee page. Older systems on the Feed-in Tariff are paid for the electricity they generate, so a fault means lost income there too. See Ofgem’s Feed-in Tariffs page. Getting a fault fixed promptly is the best way to protect your income.

Yes. Our solar panel health check covers systems from any installer, including systems where the original company is no longer trading. Our engineers work with all major panel and inverter brands and can diagnose faults, carry out repairs and advise on upgrades such as adding battery storage.
