You Invested In A Heat Pump To Be Warm, Comfortable And Save Money. So Why Isn't It Delivering?

Is your heat pump not working properly? A heat pump is only as good as the way it’s designed, installed and set up.

The system has to suit your home. Pipes, radiators and cylinder have to be sized correctly, and the controls have to be set up to match how you live.

Get those details right and a heat pump is brilliant. Miss a few and you can end up with:

  • A home that never gets properly warm
  • Electricity bills far higher than you were told to expect
  • Hot water that runs out or never gets hot enough
  • A system that’s noisy, constantly switching on and off, or throwing up errors

And the frustrating part? Many engineers won’t work on a system someone else installed. So people end up stuck with a heat pump that doesn’t work for them.

We’re TrueCare. We’ll step in and put it right.

Ask Us Anything

If you can't see your question below, send us a message, we'd be happy to help.

High electricity bills usually mean your heat pump isn’t running as efficiently as it should. Common causes include flow temperatures set too high, weather compensation not set up, the immersion heater running too often, or a system that doesn’t suit your home. A TrueCare system check shows what’s affecting your running costs and how to bring them down.

Yes. We carry out air source heat pump repairs whoever installed your system. If your original installer isn’t responding, has refused to help, or has gone out of business, we can step in, find out what’s wrong and put it right. We price the work on what your system needs, not on who fitted it.

TrueCare can. Aftercare is all we do, so we can take over repairs and servicing for your heat pump. Check your handover paperwork too, as your installation may be covered by an insurance-backed warranty. If it was installed under MCS, you can find more consumer guidance on the MCS website and through the Renewable Energy Consumer Code.

The cost of an air source heat pump repair depends on the fault and any parts needed. TrueCare diagnoses the problem first and gives you a clear quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

There are lots of reasons a heat pump might not be working properly. The most common are incorrect controller settings, low system pressure, blocked filters, a frozen outdoor unit, a faulty sensor or valve, or a system that wasn’t set up correctly when it was installed. Our certified engineers carry out a full diagnostic to find the real cause, then put it right.

Check that your controller is switched on, the isolator switch by the outdoor unit is on, and the system pressure gauge isn’t low. Take a photo of any error code on the screen. If your heat pump still isn’t working, contact TrueCare with the make, model and error code, and our engineers will take it from there.

Every heat pump brand uses different error codes, so the same code can mean different things on different systems. Send us a photo of the code along with your heat pump’s make and model. Our engineers will explain what it means and whether your heat pump needs a repair.

Heat pumps run at lower temperatures than boilers, so radiators often feel warm rather than hot, and that’s normal. What matters is whether your rooms reach a comfortable temperature. If your home never feels warm enough, your settings, radiators or system setup may need adjusting, and our engineers can help.
